We’ve finally reached the end of 2018’s first quarter. At last, we were able to get our hands on some interesting data released from both sides (East & West). Here is a condensed version of the wood plastic composite industry figures of 2017.
The wood plastic composite industry is more than ever on a booming trend
According to the China Flooring Network , in 2017, the sales of new wood plastic composite materials for the U.S. market reached nearly 6 billion U.S. dollars. In the same period, sales in China boomed to a little less than 20 billion U.S. dollars. Still, on most reports, we rarely find Chinese manufacturers listed as recognized manufacturing forces.
Back to 2017 figures, production of new wood-plastic composites materials in China was estimated at 2.5 million tons. This sole figure allows us to confirm that China is definitely the biggest supplier in the wood plastic composites industry. Although domestic market is certainly growing, more than half of 2017’s output of wood plastic composites were exported.
An increasingly comprehensive range of wood plastic composite products
The current growth of the wood plastic composite industry in China is not explained by the increasing demand abroad, but also by the combined efforts of Chinese and Foreign governments to promote greener, more durable entreprises such as wpc building products.
The domestic (understand Chinese) market experienced a serious shift in the recent years. The greedy, careless or even candid manufacturers and sellers have hurt the market before, but relentless efforts by responsible and serious actors have helped to shift the tide.
Wood plastic composite decking and cladding : more standards, less risks
Although part of the foreign buyers apparently think that Chinese manufacturers produce their wpc products with zero control over the results, resulting in major defects in bulk, or even worse, harm to the environment or even to the user, this is actually quite the contrary.
In 2017, the SAC (Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China) published several new wood plastic composite standards. These wpc standards do not apply solely to the manufacturing of wood plastic composites in China, but also to the manufacturing, testing and control of wood plastic composite accessories, mechanical fasteners to name a few.
China’s wood plastic composite industry has achieved a qualitative leap in its technological level and performance indicators. WPC’s new-generation co-extruded wood-plastic products can even surpass international standards in performance test indicators. The will to grow the industry into a stable and leading force for Chinese WPC manufacturers is there. Ultimately, this could lead to gradually capture more of the international high-end market share and lead by example.
Wood plastic composites and their greener future
Immature processing technology and inherent shortcomings were dealt with, and defects in wood plastic composites were rapidly dealt with. Actors are now, more than ever, focused on technological advance and quality output.
This change resulted in a shear number of new molds developed by Chinese engineers and designers, or jointly with foreign buyers. Old generation wood plastic composite cladding and decking (read non capped) gain from more refined and controlled composition. The new generation wood plastic composite decks and clads reach a new high in terms of performace, finish and durability of the product.
At present, China is fighting for resource protection and against environmental pollution, and the characteristics of wood-based product raw material resources, product plasticity, industrial environmental protection, and cyclic low carbonization can effectively alleviate the above problems and should be vigorously popularized.
